The Spiritual Journey
Meditation
A simple word but what does it actually mean. The Oxford dictionary definition is.
Focus one’s mind for a period of time, in silence or with the aid of chanting, for religious or spiritual purposes or as a method of relaxation.
Focus the mind in silence, seems a simple enough statement and something easily achievable. That is of course until you actually try it, the mind by its very own nature is always active. Even as we drift to sleep the mind races and even when we enter sleep it does not stop.
The mind is a relentless unforgiving organ, it keeps us alive and at the same time places self doubt deep within ourselves. These self doubts are ultimately designed to push us further to improve on what we are. It is the survival mechanism , the one that has taken humankind from living in caves to the moon.
The Spiritual Journey Control
When the self doubting does not push us forward it has the opposite effect within our minds. Self doubt leads to negativity which leads onto depression, the spiral can be endless with no obvious way out. Meditation is a way that we can gain control once again, focus and clarity is found within the silence. With the silence there becomes tranquility, a peace will wash over you as you realise that you are in control.
The spiritual journey is not something to be taken lightly, no one will ever tell you that it is an easy path to follow. If it was easy everyone would be doing it and when was the last time you got satisfaction from an easy task. Fulfilment only comes from enduring hardships, the bigger the challenge the happier the mind and soul become.
